PTFE has a number of more attractive characteristics compared with PET, including its relative bio-inertness. PET certainly does cause a greater inflammatory reaction than PET and is much more porous than PTFE. As for the ability to deliver small introducer size PTFE-stent devices, there are some very exciting devices being tested and marketed that behanve as if one were simply introducing a bare stent. Certrainly the long-term results of the Schneider Corvita and Schneider PET stent-grafts will be quite interesting. For many application we may, depite theoretic disadvantages, find that PET works just fine.
