I have had PTFE TIPS grafts in pigs stay WIDE open up to 5 months without any portal hypertension. I do not create portal hypertension for this reason. So I do not think that one can extrapolate in reverse and argue that it is a problem of the model (swine TIPS) thatcaused silicone TIPSS to fail and therefore it might be appropriate, under semi-extremis to place one. I'd be very hard pressed to do this.
