I think I would have handled the case in a very similar manner; I think part of the lesson learned here is persistence (i.e. repeating the angiogram despite not finding a bleeding lesion on the first study); I don't think I would have abandoned the drainage route but would certainly have tried to get catheters out as soon as I could. Finally, I doubt bleeding would have recurred once you removed the "pressure head", even if you couldn't get past the lesion into the normal distal hepatic arterial branches.
