It is nice that the disease stabilized so that the patient did not need the full-functioning TIPS to decompress the liver. We sometimes see patients with decreased velocities in their TIPS with normal portal venograms and normal gradient. Portal hypertension can reverse itself when the offending agent is removed (eg alcohol) and TIPS in this situation becomes redundant.
