We have had 3 cases with lumbar artery leaks. In one we got right into the sac and then out each branch off it and used microcoils with success.
The second was too small to reach. Embolising the artery with coils did not work. WE did a direct translumbar puncture and then catheterised the sac through the needle and placed coils and thrombin. It still fills!
The third was a carbon copy of this SCVIR one. We had two arteries filling out of the sac in addition to the one we plugged with Ivalon. It took two bottles and we also occluded the muscular branches of the ilio-lumbar branch.
Next time we see big ilio-lumbars we plan to embolise them first. Trouble is they only sometimes cause problems.
Does anyone think we could damage the lumbar neural plexus embolising these lumbar arteries like this?
