The angiographic appearance with symmetrical narrowing of the lumen is very suggestive of intimal hyperplasia. Stents and intimal hyperplasia are known to coexist and this is no big surprise. Schneider is trying to make the argument that PET covered stents are less prone to intimal hyperplasia compared to bare stents. This may or may not be true. PET has large pores and cell migration through the pores does happen. Laminated thrombus is a possibility but less likely in my opinion. MR or IVUS could be helpful. I'll try and convince my coleagues to order one.
