While the use of Open-Cath was temporally related to the pulmonary embolism, I can't really imagine that 1-2 cc of urokinase was enough to case this embolism. If it was related to the instillation, I suspect 1-2 cc of heparin flush would have "launched" the clot too.

I too will continue to use Open-Cath and recommend it for dysfunctional catheters.

The dilemma in trying to treat the RA clot (and its PE) with lytic or other endovascular methods is that the clot might launch before it lyses. Anyone think we "wimped out"?
