I agree. The IJV approach is quick,safe, and easy.
I think you did the right thing by placing an svc filter given the circumstances,however, this pt certainly warrants a hypercoagubility workup as recurrent PE remains a possibility either from thrombus originating on the filters or endogenously in the pulmonary arteries.
