Our primary goal for first attempting the duodenal stent solution was to leve the patient with a patent duodenum so that he would need only one tube, his PEG, and would only need that for feeding, not feeding and draining. All other solutions would have left him with either more complex tubes (a CAC, for instance) that are more difficult to manage in long-term care facilities, or more than one tube to manage (a PEG and a feeding jejunostomy).
