This case is an excellent example of a clinical presentation encountered several times a year in a busy vascular lab. The varied opinions expressed on this website alone clearly demonstrate that our ablility to predict the outcome of lytic therapy in these patients is poor and the decision to lyse versus primarily stent remains subjective.
Regarding stent placement, it may be more important to avoid excluding significant branches such as the deep femoral and greater saphenous veins than to be concerned whether a stent crosses a joint.
