Like some other institutions, our CTAP volume has plummeted since the advent of dual phase spiral CT and increasing refinements in MR technique. If the patients are still candidates for resection, an intraoperative US is also performed. When we do the CTAP's, we perform a digital run for roadmapping purposes and place the catheter in the SMA for the CTAP. Interestingly, there are two studies comparing splenic vs SMA placement for the CTAP. The group from Pittsburgh found that splenic was better while the group from Duke found no difference.
