We have had two cases in which Urokinase and angioplasty prior to surgery was initially successful, but in both cases there was re-thrombosis (one before surgery, the other immediately after surgery). In both cases, following surgery the patients underwent thrombolysis and stenting with good results. I'm not sure what the best time course is in terms of UK and surgery, but I do believe that patients deserve at least a venogram post-surgery to see if further intervention is warranted.
