Pheochromocytomas have been associated with FMD but the association is almost exclusively in the ipsilateral kidney. Theories (although unproven) involve spasm of the vaso vasorum from catecholamine stimulation, compression of the vessel by tumor (not in this case), or accelerated atherosclerosis. This subject is covered in part in a review of FMD in the journal "Mayo Clin Proc 62:931-952," published in 1987. From the above, it would be VERY unusual to have a contralateral pheo with FMD but stranger things have certainly happened.
