We have had historical succcess in 2 cases with drainage of the portal vein; no lysis, but this was long ago.
Coincidentally, we have an active case now, currently being treated with antibiotics
Lysis is agressive, but it is difficult to sterilize infected thrombus without removing it.
As to outcome; these are desperately ill patients; when you lose, you lose.
